Recap and Discussion 2 x 7 – Soul Mates

The episode opens with Vir waiting to greet Londo’s 3 wives. Timov shows up first and insists on being taken to Londo’s quarters.

Garibaldi notices an odd man come aboard. He and another man seem to be arguing but the other man simply forgets why and walks away. Garibaldi goes to Sheridan, who has just invited Talia in for a talk about Psi Corps. When Garibaldi mentions the man’s name, Stoner, Talia says he was once her husband and refuses to talk about him.

Delenn asks Ivanova to help with her hair, which is a horribly tangles mess. Susan reluctantly agrees.

Londo’s other two wives, Daggair and Mariel, show up as does Londo. He tells them it is the 30th anniversary of his ascension tomorrow and the emperor has granted him a wish – to divorce his wives but the emperor requires that he keep one of them. He says he will choose tomorrow.

Talia explains to Sheridan that she and Stoner were chosen to be married by Psi Corp because of the offspring they might have and that Stoner claimed he lost all his teep abilities during some experiments and subsequently left Psi Corp, something that doesn’t happen.

Stoner is selling an artifact from a Centauri settlement and Garibaldi takes him in but has to let him go.

Lennier comes into Delenn’s quarters and tells her they have been invited to Londo’s celebration. Delenn says they will accept.

Londo is taking his wives on a tour of the station and Mariel flirts with Sheridan. Londo warns him she is attracted to power.

Stoner tells Talia he can take her away from Psi Corps and cure her of her abilities. Later when Garibaldi tells her he’s got her back, she tells him to stay out of it.

Later still Talia apologizes and tells Garibaldi that she is going to be leaving the station with Stoner because he has promised to take her away from Psi Corps too.

Mariel buys the artifact that Stoner sold in the Zocalo.

Ivanova tells Sheridan that they must be shoeless at the Centauri celebration. Later G’kar arrives in boots and is irritated when Londo is not upset. When Londo opens his gift from Mariel, two darts shoot out of the eyes and hit him, knocking him out.

Franklin tells Sheridan that Londo will die without a blood transfusion and that they have none of his type. Mariel swears she did not know the gift was booby trapped. Daggair tells Timov if he dies now, their futures are secure as his widows.

Stoner says he got the artifact in Sector 127, a former Centauri colony overrun by Narn. Sheridan thinks maybe it was set to poison any Centauri who picked it up.

Timov finally tells Franklin that she has Londo’s blood type and will save him as long as Franklin never tells him she did so. Londo wakes later, says he is happy to see his ‘nightmares’ ala his wives, and says he isn’t sure if he’s in Medlab or Hell.

Welch has gotten food for Stoner even though it’s not meal time – this shows Garibaldi that perhaps Stoner can force people to like him, to do what he wants them to.

G’kar is talking to someone we can’t see about the attempt on Londo’s life and he tells her that if he can figure it out, then so can Londo. She is Mariel and it appears she is his lover perhaps.

Psi Corps evidently rescued Stoner from charges on B5. Talia refuses to go with him.

Londo and Vir escort the wives to customs. He has chosen Timov because he says at least he know where he stands with her.

The episode ends with Delenn mentioning cramps to Ivanova…

Perhaps the secret to many successful marriages:
"The secret of our marriage's success is our lack of communication, Londo. You have jeopardized that success and I would know why!"
– Timov

Questions for discussion:

1. Do you think Stoner was freed by Psi Corp or does he still work for them? Why would he come for Talia?
2. Was it simply coincidence that Stoner brought the statue that almost killed Londo to B5? Was there a plot involving Mariel, Stoner and other unknown persons? G’kar perhaps?
3. What do you make of Mariel and G’kar?
4. So what did you think of the wives on the whole? Did Londo keep the right one?
