I remember this! It was wonderful, and very Bester.

Even if I refuse to accept the last book in that trilogy as canon.

Thank you! And well, I'm not that crazy about the last book myself, but I think the Telepath Trilogy still holds up better than the Centauri Trilogy (and I say this as a passionate Centauriphile who loves Londo, Vir & Co. above and beyond), because Keyes really took the trouble to develop what we knew about telepaths from the show into their own history and subculture.
