Keyes has lulled us into liking the nasty, villainous worm that Bester really is. I even found myself wishing he'd never get caught but only for a second.

The funny thing is that I really dislike Bester for ruining Chekov in Star Trek: TOS for me. He was my favorite character when I saw the show as a child - he was young and cute as could be but now, Walter will always be icky Bester! I can't forgive him for that!

:) I don't know whether it's only an urban legend or solid fact, but supposedly at one point there was a plan for Chekov to show up on DS9, but not in a heartwarming story a la Scotty; it would turn out that he was tortured for years by whoever had kept him prisoner and ended up Stockholmed, and he'd go after our heroes, and according to the rumour I heard at a convention years ago (I repeat: I only heard this via fantalk and have no idea whether it was ever more than wishful thinking) this was because Walter's performance as Bester had impressed everyone so much in a "we never knew he had it in him, can't we use that for Star Trek as well?" manner.

I'll say that my first thought when I saw the cover for "Deadly Relations" was "for God's sake, graphic artist, this is not Walter Koenig as a young man - you have more than enough pics of him as Chekov to use as a basis?", and then my second thought was that this was probably the reason why the cover looks so un-Walter-like - they didn't want young Bester to look like Chekov.
