Yes, this. You would think that a tie-in writer who has also written for the actual show would be familiar enough with the canon to realise that it makes no sense - especially when Delenn's pregnancy in his version of the story lasted for over two years...
eta: Oh, and I agree with you about Mariel. She could have been an awesome character, but what eventually happens with her is on my very short list of canon (or 'canon') moments in any of my fandoms that have actually made me angry.
