Was the purpose of the inquisition to find out if Delenn had the right motives OR was it to harden her resolve, to cement her and Sheridan’s commitment?
This is part of whats bothered me more and more about this episode over the years, because Kosh's motives in starting this don't make a ton of sense. It would be simple to say that duh, he's a Vorlon, or course it doesn't make sense; and I can see that there *are* reasons up to a point, but the stated reasons don't exactly hold water.
I suspect there are some in the Vorlon government (if that's even the right word) that have doubts about the road forward and whether Delenn really is qualified for the position Kosh has spent the last decade-plus grooming her for. Delenn's own struggles over s2 may have prompted the need for a push to get her really believing in her place again. There's a sort of paradoxical problem that having spent so long building Delenn up for this role, there is some need to make sure it hasn't gone to her head and made her overly confident in her position in things; but there also isn't exactly time to groom someone else if she does fail. I think the JMS reason of greying up the Vorlons may have applied to Kosh himself knowing that the younger races may have to also defy the Vorlon in the coming war (I don't know if he knew the extent it would get to, but with the divide among Vorlons we see down the line, Kosh probably knew the war wouldn't go so sooth) and this pushes Sheridan and Delenn to unite against a Vorlon opposition for the first time. And I think Kosh ships them so he's playing matchmaker.
I...may have spent an unnecessary amount of time thinking about this, but it's really my biggest issue with the episode.
