Babylon Rewatch – Beginning November 2, 2015

We will begin with The Gathering as single episode and then season one. I will do The Gathering and you may sign up to do something for any episode you wish. I think we will post one post for discussion and one for creative things: a fiction, picture, video, and/or recs to other works of any type that pertain to this episode. Have fun!

The Lurker’s Guide to B5: Episode list is a good source for information about each episode. If you do not have your own B5 set, it is available to rent at Netflix as discs, for purchase at $1.99 an episode at Amazon Prime streaming OR as low as $21.55 for the season on Disc. If you know other sources, please let us know here.

Sorry for the unexpected hiatus. Real life got in the way, and I have gotten so used to the scheduled posting that I forgot that I need to actually schedule posts for them to appear in the community :)

We'll continue with the unproduced scripts as soon as I sort everything out.

Sorry for the short notice, but I only just realised that the second weekend in April will be Easter (and Passover as well, I think?). Since a lot of people (myself included) will probably be busy then, I decided to move the schedule by two weeks so that the first post will go up April 15th.

Sorry for the inconvinience, I really should have noticed this earlier.

I just closed the poll since it looks like we have enough interest to start reading the books. The popular choice to start was April, so there'll be few weeks for everyone to dig the books out of storage ;)

I say we start with the trilogies, which got most votes, and go through them in order of popularity, meaning that J. Gregory Keyes' Telepath trilogy (Dark Genesis: Birth of the PSI Corps, Deadly Relations: Bester Ascendant, and Final Reckoning: The Fate of Bester)will be the first one to go. I was just skimming the books, and noticed that the books in the telepath trilogy are all divided into four parts, 40-70 pages each, so I think the smartest way would be to do one part per week - that way we'll go through one book per month.

On a quick look, it would seem that these books aren't quite out of print. The second book, for example, seems to still be at least listed at Amazon, though with only few copies left, so if you want to buy the books, you need to hurry ;)

And for the record, the next post in this community will be locked, so if you want to see it (say, if you don't happen to have access to the books...), you need to join the community in addition to watching it.

Hello again everyone!

When we ended the rewatch last year, I suggested that we might read the tie-in novels together next, and so a little poll to see if people are still interested.

[Poll #1824178]

Since most of these are out of print, they may be very difficult to acquire. If there's a book etc. that you're interested in reading in the 'book club', but don't have access to, mention it in the comments, and I'll *ahem* try to come up with some kind of a solution.

It took us 2.5 years to get from The Gathering to Lost Tales, and I would like to thank everyone who participated in the discussion, be every week or just once. It was a pleasure reading everyone's thoughts even if I myself fell behind somewhere around S3 :)

I consider it a big achievement that we actually made it from beginning to the end, because I've seen many rewatch communities for younger and more active fandoms die out after a few seasons.

As for the future of the community, I don't think we'll be starting over again any time soon, but I was thinking about maybe having a book club kind of thing to read the tie-in novels. At least the good ones ;) This would be next year at the earliest to give people time to track down the books seeing that they're all out of print.

The people have spoken, and we will be discussing the tv-movies next (In the Beginning, Thirdspace, and River of Souls), followed by Crusade (in JMS's revised order), and finally Legend of the Rangers, and The Lost Tales.

So mark your calendars for In the Beginning on May 1st.

Also, since the community has been a bit quiet during last season, I would appreciate if you could spread the word about [livejournal.com profile] b5_revisited to your friends and maybe we might get some new watchers to join the discussion.

Now that we have reached the end of Babylon 5, I'm thinking we'll have a few weeks of hiatus to give everyone time to catch up on the show, and then continue with the movies and spin-offs. But in which order?

[Poll #1725600]
(See here for more info on the different Crusade viewing orders)

Opinions are welcome in the comments :)

Just a reminder that next week's episode will be "Atonement". There is also still time to discuss this week's episode, "The Illusion of Truth".

And while we're here, a poll:

I just remembered that Thirdspace takes place chronologically between "Illusion of Truth" and "Atonement", and while it's too late to watch it there, I thought I'd ask for opinions when people would like to watch it.

Quick question: I just realised that the master episode list at Lurker's Guide, from where I've copied the schedule for the profile, lists the episodes in the intended watching order, not in the original airing order (I have no idea which one the DVDs use). There are only two viewing order differences in S2 - "Soul Mates"/"Race Through Dark Places" and "Knives"/"In the Shadow of Z'ha'dum" - but I thought I'd ask people's opinion any way.

[Poll #1433385]

With "Soul Mates"/"Race Through Dark Places", I don't think it matters which episode is watched first, but with "Knives"/"In the Shadow of Z'ha'dum" Sheridan's vision of Anna in "Knives" was supposed to foreshadow him finding out the truth about her fate in the next episode.

And yes, we will definitely have a long discussion about viewing order when we get to Crusade ;)

We're now nearing the end of S1, and so it's time for yet another poll. I've had few people suggest that some other posting day for the discussion would be better, and since I only picked Sunday so that it would remind me to post [livejournal.com profile] universe_today as well (alas, this did not work) I have no problem with that.

I've also noticed that there hasn't been any activity in the No spoilers threads for a while, so I thought I'd put it up for a vote whether or not we need it at all.

Hello!

Another month has now gone by watching and discussing B5, so I thought a mod post might be in order. So, how is everyone doing? Any comments, questions, suggestions for improving the community?

It's been a slightly quieter week than usual again, so just a reminder that the discussion posts are open all week (and beyond) so if you're behind in watching the episodes, don't be shy, just jump into to the discussion even if you are a bit late.

And finally, let's have a quick headcount to see how many people are still here:

Just quickly droppin by for a little status post now that we've been doing this for a month. We've had some wonderful discussion so far, and far more comments for the first few episodes than I expected.

I do notice, though, that our non-spoilered watchers have been curiously absent these first few weeks... ;)

And don't forget to check back on the old discussion posts even after a new episode is posted - some people are only catching up, so there have been new comments posted even after the 'official' weeks. It's perfectly ok - encouraged even - to continue the discussion in the old posts (just remember the spoiler rules in the non-spoilery posts), so don't worry if you are behind on watching the episodes.

Also, I keep forgetting to mention this, but if you're in United States, you can actually watch the first two seasons of B5 online free (and perfectly legally!) at Hulu.
