The best moment in Babylon 5:

So it all comes to a head.

The first ones come to the final battle, Lorien speechifies about the old days and gathers all his ‘children’ to him and they leave to go beyond the Rim.

Cartagia is dead. The Shadows are vanquished from Centauri Prime. Londo is Prime Minister and finds out who truly ordered his Adira’s death. And Vir gets his big scene then Londo tells him to go back to Babylon 5.

So what is next? We have the war of wars ended on episode 6 of the season. Remember that no one knew if there was going to be a 5th season the story was all crammed into this one.

"To live on as we have is to leave behind joy, and love, and companionship, because we know it to be transitory, of the moment. We know it will turn to ash. Only those, whose lives are brief can imagine that love is eternal. You should embrace that remarkable illusion. It may be the greatest gift your race has ever received."
-- Lorien to Ivanova in Babylon 5:"Into the Fire"

1. What was your favorite moment in this one?
2. I know the CGI was nothing like what we have today and that never mattered to me, but I did love seeing all the different ships in Sheridan’s Army of Light. MY favorite was the one that looked like a flying saucer. What was yours?
3. Did you notice whose voice the Shadow was when they were talking to Lorien just before they left the galaxy?
4. Did nukes seem a little outdated to you?
5. Lorien’s speech about immortality brought to mind Tolkien’s Gift of Illuvatar to his young children – mortality. Are there other obvious references to Tolkien?

*arrives two years later with starbucks* Phew! What a busy episode! And it has a very season finale feeling.

Oh, Londo. *sigh* I mean, it was always meant to end up here, but still. But he gets to be a badass. I wonder what Mr. Morden felt when the island was blown up? Physical pain? A telepathic backslash?

Nukes do seem outdated, especially considering they're facing races who can pretty much vaporise their opponents with a single beam but... But it worked, I guess. A bit like throwing pebbles at a tank to get the driver's attention.

I feel like there's a lot parallels with Tolkien but obvious references? My Tolkien-fu is too rusty to say.

BTW, this episode really made me want to reread Louise Cooper's Chaos Gate.
