Recap and Discussion for 3 x 1 – Matters of Honor

Ivanova: The Babylon Project was our last, best hope for peace. It failed. But in the year of the Shadow War it became something greater: our last, best hope…for victory. The year is 2260. The place, Babylon 5.

~~~
Season three begins with Sheridan talking to Kosh in the garden. Kosh says allowing so many people to see him was a great strain.
We skip to a planet in Drazi space – the Centauri are attacking and a man is trying to get away. He is ejected and tells his transport to take him to Babylon 5.
David Endawi from EarthForce Special intelligence arrives on B5. He asks to meet with Sheridan and Delenn.
Garibaldi brings the man (Marcus) to Medlab and shows Franklin the Ranger emblem he found on him. Franklin turns around and Marcus is gone.
Morden meets with Londo. Londo says he wishes to break off their association. Morden says okay but there is one small detail that he must tell Londo later and he will come to Londo’s quarters to do that.
Wndawi tells John and Delenn about the shadow ship yanked from ISN after Keffler recorded it and asks if they have seen it before. They say no. After Wndawi leaves, John asks Delennif it is a shadow shiop and she tells him yes though she has never seen one. She says they are invincible. On the way back to her quarters, Lennier stops Delenn and tells her someone wants to meet with her.
Londo meets with Wndawi and tells him about his dream of the shadow ships flying in ever increasing numbers over Centauri Prime until they block out the sun.
Lennier and Delenn go to a bar in Downbelow and meet a man who offers them a drink. When Lennier declines, the man, Marcus, says they need to blend in. He ask for his Ranger pin back and they go to a more private space, followed by a thug or two, who say they must pay to meet here. Marcus, Delenn and Lennier beat the crap out of the thugs.
Sheridan introduces Susan, who knows all about the Rangers. Marcus tells them about the Ranger Training facility on Zagros 7. The Centauri have blockaded it with mines and he has come to seek help in enabling the Rangers to escape. They need someone to disable the mines. Ivanova and Garibaldi argue against it but Sheridan says they are his responsibility so they will go to the Rangers’ aid. Sheridan tasks Michael to take care of Wndawi until they return.
Morden is in Londo’s quarters and he says they want one thing. He brings up a star map and says you have these planets and we want these planets so stay away from them AND Lord Refa has secured one small planet for them (Zagros 7) and the Centauri need to get out of the space there before his forces reach the planet.
Sheridan and the gang reach the White Star and Delenn tells him it is his.
Garibaldi sends Wndawi to G’kar and we get the ‘I don’t even tell myself’ speech from Michael.
Delenn tells Sheridan that the ship is made from Vorlon and Minbari technology and it has the ability to make its own jumpgate. She also tells him that it has artificial gravity and they have been using it for some time. The crew is made up of the Religious Caste and Lennier will translate Sheridan’s orders as they have not yet learned his language. They head for Zagros 7.
Wndawi goes to see G’kar and G’kar tells him that before the Narn were spacefaring, the Shadows set up a base on one of their southern continents. G’kar said the ancient enemy has returned.
Marcus tells Susan that he joined the Rangers because his brother wanted him to finish what he started before he was killed.
They find no Cantauri ships at Zagros 7 so they begin to destroy the mines that blockade the planet. A shadow ships comes in and fires at them. They manage to free the Rangers then head out, drawing the Shadow with them. They draw it into a jumpgate and make their own inside as well, destroying the Shadow.
When they get back to B5, Wndawi wants to know where they’ve been and Delenn says they towed a Minbari ship and had to do it in secret.
Back at Earth Alliance Central Government, Wndawi gives his report to a senator. He says can’t find any real answers about the ships. After he leaves, Morden walks in as well as a man from Psi Corps. Morden is pleased and the Psi Corps man says they can use the information at home.
A meeting on B5 – they are creating a War Counsel and will meet every 2 weeks. Franklin asked about the Shadows and Delenn begins her tale of the ancient ones and the shadows.
Quotes:
Garibaldi:: And what kind of head of security would I be if I let people like me know things I'm not supposed to know. I know what I know because I have to know it. And if I don't have to know it, I don't tell me or let anybody else tell me either… I try never to get involved in my own life. Too much trouble.
G'Kar: One of our greatest spiritual leaders. The book of G'Quan is copied by hand from the original with every note and line precisely drawn. This ship and your ship are the same. I tried to warn the others that the ancient enemy was returning, but no one listened. Perhaps now they will.
David Endawi: But if this is correct, why would they just disappear for a thousand years?
G'Kar: To all things there is a time, Mr. Endawi. Perhaps this is theirs.’’
Delenn: There are beings in the universe billions of years older than any of our races. They walked among the stars like giants, vast, timeless. They created great empires, taught the new races, explored beyond the rim. The oldest of the ancients are the Shadows. We have no other name for them.
