Recap and discussion of 4 x 2 – What Ever happened to Mr. Garibaldi?
I have to admit that this episode, particularly the Lorien bits, rather annoyed me this time around. To paraphrase a judge on Boston Legal, there was just too much jibber jabber. Lorien tends to drone on and on, I’m afraid, and says so many things that make little sense that I completely ignored most of it.
We open with Franklin saying 9 days since Z’ha’dum. He says lots of the League worlds have left B5 and gone home to wait for the other shoe to drop, for the war to resume in earnest.
Lennier tells Franklin that he worries for Delenn.
John is dreaming - ‘Who are you?’, ‘What do you want?’ He tells Lorien he was dreaming of escape since it is his obligation to escape. Lorien says words have power. Which came first, thought or word? (See what I mean?)
Lorien tells him he is dead, suspended in time between the tic and the toc.
‘Here between moments, we have all the time in the world.’
Meanwhile, G’kar walks into a bar, searching for Mr. Garibaldi. He asks a man about a piece of a Starfury with the same serial number as Mr. Garibaldi’s. The man doesn’t want to talk to him. Marcus shows up just as a fight is imminent and when they leave, the bar owner has them followed and tells a Centauri that he might have something for him.
Franklin tells Delenn as a part human, she cannot fast as she did in the past. It will harm her. She says John’s death is her fault and that she will fast and die and join him in a place where no shadows fall.
Marcus and G’kar figure out that someone is after G’kar. Marcus asks why he is hunting Mr. Garibaldi. G’kar answers that he never before had a non-Narn friend. Marcus says he never had a friend who was a narn and damn few friends at all. G’kar takes a look at Marcus’ pike, likes it.
Two Centauri are showing the bar owner a photo array of wanted Narns and he identifies G’kar.
Stephen finds a data crystal for Delenn in John’s effects. He takes it to her. She plays it. John tells her loves her and he has to see things through.
Marcus finally does find out that the piece was found on a tip from IPX. G’kar tells him to go back to B5 to find Montagne while he will check out the ship. The Centauri come for G’kar and take him after a fight.
Delenn calls the Rangers together and tells them they will attack Z’ha’dum in 7 days. She says theuir chances are small but their chances are zero if they do nothing at all.
Emperor Cartagia sends for Londo in the middle of the night. When he does show up, Cartagia bitches about him being late but decides to forgive him anyway since Londo does mention that he uis ;late because he knew he must dress properly for the emperor. He gifts Londo with G’kar. Londo thanks him. G’kar asks if they know where Mr. Garibaldi might be.
Finally we see Michael. He is beating the walls. He’s being interrogated by a voice and says he doesn’t know the answer. He’s gassed then a man walks in.
Londo visits G’kar’s cell. He tells him he was very foolish to leave B5, where he was granted sanctuary. He tells G’kar they will torture and kill him and that he does not wish that on anyone, even G’Kar. He tells G’kar that Cartagia is a monster and he wants his help in removing him. G’kar says he will do so only with Londo’s promise to see the Narn free. G’kar agrees.
Lorien says he was not ONE of the first ones, but he was THE first one. He tells John he is the first to make it that far, maybe he can make it out. He tells John he must surrender to toc (die). He must stop running from death and simply be. ‘Do you have something worth living for?’
John thinks of Delenn.

Quotes:
Lorien: It's easy to find something worth dying for. Do you have anything worth living for?
Lorien: Words have meaning. And Names have power. The universe began with a word, you know. But which came first? The word or the thought behind the word?
G'Kar: If you're going to be worried every time the universe doesn't make sense you'll be worried every moment of every day for the rest of your natural life.
Marcus Cole: Your point being?

Questions:
1. Did you actually understand what Lorien said? Are you sure *grin*?
2. Did PsiCorp take Mr. Garibaldi?
3. Were you surprised at the deal between Londo and G’kar?
4. Why is Susan so broke up that she has Stephen clean out John’s things?
5. So did John free himself when he chose to die? Or did he choose to live?
