[personal profile] ruuger posting in [community profile] b5_revisited
Just quickly droppin by for a little status post now that we've been doing this for a month. We've had some wonderful discussion so far, and far more comments for the first few episodes than I expected.

I do notice, though, that our non-spoilered watchers have been curiously absent these first few weeks... ;)

And don't forget to check back on the old discussion posts even after a new episode is posted - some people are only catching up, so there have been new comments posted even after the 'official' weeks. It's perfectly ok - encouraged even - to continue the discussion in the old posts (just remember the spoiler rules in the non-spoilery posts), so don't worry if you are behind on watching the episodes.

Also, I keep forgetting to mention this, but if you're in United States, you can actually watch the first two seasons of B5 online free (and perfectly legally!) at Hulu.

Thanks for the heads up on Hulu! I thought I had the first season on vhs still, but I've only been able to find half the season.

A note: if you click the little "thumbtack" icon in the blue icon bar at the top of the post, you get e-mailed with each new comment on that post. It's a good way to keep track of further comments without having to go back and check.

So that's what that little icon is for!

*headdesk*

(Speaking of icons, I almost spit my Starbuck's Frap when I saw yours. Hee!)

Have finally got my DVDs straightened out and am re-watching B5 for the first time in several years. It's amazing what details and continuity the early episodes have, even though The Gathering was a lot more stilted than I recall. At the time non-SF critics generally bashed *anything* with space travel elements, so I was sure they were wrong. Even with some difficult moments, it set up the universe and the multi-strand plot style which continues through the whole show. Right from the start, you see doubled characters -- Takashima to Ivanova, Kyle to Franklin, and Lyta to Talia Winters. This was clearly part of JMS' strategy for dealing with such a long epic in uncertain production circumstances, but over the series it heightened the mythic resonance enormously.

I hope to catch up with the viewing soon!
