The Memory of War discussion

Sorry, I totally forgot about this. Again.

This is the discussion post for "The Memory of War". Spoilers for the whole of the series, including the spin-offs and tie-ins, are allowed here so newbies beware. If you have any fanworks related to this episode, you can also leave links to them in this post.

Summary:
The Excalibur crew explores an abandoned planet and discovers a weapon left behind by a technomage.

At last I am reunited with my Crusade dvds, and can join the rewatch.

1.) Galen: still my least favourite person on the show. Though actually the only part where he's insufferable in this episode is at the beginning. I think you have to be Michael Ansara or Ian McKellen to pull off cryptic for cryptic's sake without being annoying, and young Mr. W. simply doesn't have the gravitas. However, in the scene with Sarah Chambers where he realises that a technomage must be responsible for the for the deaths below he's very efficient conveying Galen's horror. Also extra points for the other Chambers and Galen scene where she sees his implants. We know now that the big s1 revelation would have been that the technomages were originally created by the Shadows, and this episode certainly hints heavily at that, with the similarities between the Drakh virus and the Technomage virus, as well as Galen's implants which recall Anna Sheridan's implants.

2.) Dureena sitting, watching the sunset, is one of the visuals I remember best about the show.

3.) Still as fond of Max Eilerson and his smartass ways as ever. andrastewhite once said your avarage sci fi show burdens the Captain with one Excentric Genius (tm) who does whatever the hell he/she wants; Gideon, poor guy, gets three (Galen, Dureena and Eilerson). Ah well. He's up for it.
